From the Department of the US Navy the definition of Cyber Tools is – “A program used for software development or system maintenance. Virtually any program or utility that helps programmers or users develop applications or maintain their computers can be called a tool.”
In short, cyber crime continues to increase. Cyber criminals use a number of techniques to penetrate and cause harm. As a result, not only do we have to be aware of the threat but also consider tools that can help us protect our systems.
Some of the tools we found that the Government of Iowa, Information Security Division recommends include:
Cybrary IT – free cybersecurity training videos on everything from basic network security to penetration testing.
VirusTotal – is a free service that analyzes suspicious files and facilitates the quick detection of viruses, worms, trojans, and all kinds of malware.
Avast – Antivirus software
Password Meter & Storage
Wipe Utility Programs
Microsoft Safety Scanner – is a free tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing anti-virus software.
DBAN – DBAN is free erasure software designed for the home user. It automatically deletes the contents of any hard disk that it can detect.
Active KillDisk – Powerful and compact software that allows you to destroy all data on hard disks, SSD & USB disks completely, excluding any possibility of future recovery of deleted files and folders.
Millions will become victim. The police cannot protect you, but education and prevention can make a difference.
